About us

Building Healthier Communities Through Food Literacy

Nutrition Clarity Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving community well-being through food literacy and nutrition education.

We focus on helping individuals and families better understand food labels, ingredients, and everyday nutrition information — so they can make informed choices with clarity and confidence, without dieting, diagnosis, or judgment.

Our Mission & Why We Exist

Most people were never taught how to understand food — only how to restrict it.
Food labels are confusing, nutrition messaging is inconsistent, and many communities lack access to clear, practical education they can trust.

The Nutrition Clarity Foundation exists to close that gap.

Our mission is to advance food literacy through education-first initiatives that support informed decision-making and lifelong understanding — especially in communities with limited access to practical nutrition education.

When people understand what’s on their plate and how to interpret everyday food information, they are better equipped to navigate food with confidence in daily life.

Our Approach

We use a clarity-based, education-first approach that treats nutrition as a life skill — not a set of rules.

Our Clarity Framework helps people:

  • Understand food labels and ingredients

  • Recognize common sources of confusion and marketing language

  • Build awareness around everyday food choices

  • Develop confidence without shame or perfectionism

All programming is designed to be:

  • Non-clinical

  • Non-diet focused

  • Accessible and practical

  • Grounded in real-life food environments

Our Work

Nutrition Clarity Foundation advances food literacy through education and community-based initiatives, including:

  • Nutrition education and food literacy programs

  • Prevention-focused community education

  • School, workplace, and community outreach

  • Research-informed awareness and education resources

Our education is delivered through both in-person programming and our connected virtual learning platform, ensuring access across different settings and learning styles.

How Our Educational Content Is Developed

Our resources are informed by publicly available guidance from organizations such as the FDA, CDC, and NIH, along with standard public health education frameworks. We translate existing guidance into clear, accessible tools for everyday use.

Meet The Founder

Autumn Shelton founded Nutrition Clarity Foundation after years of navigating how food, health, and prevention intersect in real life — and witnessing how often people are expected to manage food decisions without clear, practical education.

Through lived experience, health education, and professional work within the healthcare system, Autumn recognized a consistent pattern: people aren’t failing — they’re missing clarity.

What began as a personal inquiry grew into a broader mission to make food literacy accessible, practical, and grounded in education rather than restriction or perfection.
