About Nutrition Clarity Foundation
Nutrition Clarity Foundation (NCF) is a nonprofit dedicated to making food literacy more practical, approachable, and accessible.
We believe understanding food shouldn't feel confusing.
Every day, people make decisions about the food they buy, prepare, and serve to their families. Yet many are expected to understand food labels, ingredient lists, nutrition claims, and grocery choices without ever being taught how.
That's where we come in.
Through practical food literacy education, we help individuals and families build confidence with everyday food decisions—without pressure, perfection, or overwhelming information.
Why We Exist
Food is about more than nutrition.
It's about budgets, busy schedules, caregiving, culture, health, and the realities of everyday life.
We know that most food decisions aren't made under perfect circumstances. They're made between work, school, appointments, family responsibilities, and everything else life demands.
That's why our approach focuses on helping people make informed decisions that work in real life—not ideal situations.
What We Do
We advance food literacy through educational resources, community learning experiences, and partnerships that make food information more understandable, accessible, and practical for everyday life.
Whether someone is attending a workshop, exploring our Resource Hub, reading an article, or learning at their own pace, every resource is designed to help build the knowledge and confidence to make informed everyday food decisions.
"No one should have to feel confused about the food they're buying."
Meet The Founder
Nutrition Clarity Foundation was founded by Autumn Shelton, whose passion for food literacy is shaped by both lived experience and her background in healthcare.
Growing up, Autumn experienced seasons where food choices were shaped by survival rather than education. Like many families, decisions about food were often driven by what was available, affordable, and practical—not by a clear understanding of how food could affect long-term health and well-being.
As she grew older, she began learning more about the relationship between food and health through personal experience, academic study, and her professional career. That knowledge changed the way she viewed food—not simply as something that satisfies hunger, but as something that can influence health, energy, and quality of life.
While earning her Master's degree in Healthcare Administration and working in healthcare for more than eight years, she recognized a pattern that extended far beyond her own story.
People are routinely expected to make decisions about food, nutrition, and health without ever being taught the fundamentals. In many communities, practical food literacy education simply isn't available.
That realization became the foundation for Nutrition Clarity Foundation.
NCF was created to help close that gap by making food literacy more practical, approachable, and accessible—so individuals and families can build confidence with everyday food decisions.
Our Vision
We envision a future where practical food literacy education is accessible to everyone.
A future where food labels are easier to understand, grocery decisions feel less overwhelming, and individuals and families have the confidence to make informed choices that work for their lives.
Because when people have greater clarity, they're better equipped to navigate everyday life.
